Star Wars Weekly News
By Boba
Hello there! BobaFettiscool here with this week's News Segment! We've got a lot of Star Wars news to discuss, so let's get to it!
Bad Batch Trailers, Clips, and Posters!
This week, we got a bunch of promo material for The Bad Batch! First off, we got the rest of the promotional posters for the show, featuring Crosshair, Wrecker, and Omega! You can check those out above! You can also check out some cool video clips, like a Featurette, a short promo video called The Batch is Back, clips from episode 1 called Challenge and For Hire, and a clip from episode 2 called Mercenaries. Be sure to tell us what you think!
THE SMITHSONIAN HAS AN X-WING?!
I honestly never thought I'd be typing these words, but in the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Virginia, you can check out a full size X-Wing. It was created for The Rise of Skywalker and is on long term loan from Lucasfilm. It is currently being preserved at the aforementioned location, where people can check out it's conservation (it reopened on May 5th). The X-Wing will eventually be moved to the National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC to be displayed in late 2022. That's crazy! What do you guys think?
Bad Batch LEGO!
We've got a cool new LEGO set to check out this week! The Bad Batch Attack Shuttle (#75314) comes with six minifigures (Hunter, Tech, Wrecker, Crosshair, and a Gonk Droid) and is 969 pieces. You can check it out above! Pretty cool! Hopefully we'll get some new LEGO sets as the show continues on. What do you guys think of the shuttle?
Michael B. Jordan's TFA Audition!
From Tom Holland to Michael B. Jordan, it seemed everyone bombed their audition for The Force Awakens. Although both Michael and Tom are doing quite well despite their abysmal audition stories, Michael recalled this one as probably his worst to date. Here's what he had to say:
"I think it was I couldn't wrap my brain around some of the sides because you know when you're reading for these high-level projects, there's never really any specificity in the sides. Everything's like super vague; everything is in secret. Reading through, I just couldn't connect it. I definitely bombed that one for sure."
At least he had a good excuse for it (I'm looking at you Tom). I feel bad for him because the reason he didn't do well isn't entirely his fault, which stinks. He also mentioned that he hasn't met JJ Abrams since the audition. I wonder what would've happened if the audition went better and he got the role. What do you guys think?
Galactic Star Cruiser Teaser!
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Launches 2022 | Walt Disney World Resort
This week, we got an interesting little tidbit of information about how immersive the Galactic Star Cruiser Hotel will be. Remember a few weeks ago when it was mentioned that a new, retractable lightsaber was revealed? Well, we got our first look at it this week! You can check it out in the shirt clip above! It looks awesome! What do you guys think? We also got some cool pictures and details involving the immersive experience. Vacationers are encouraged to attend in cosplay and enjoy the ride. People can dedicate themselves to the Resistance or betray them, run into some characters from the films and some new faces, and create their own story throughout their vacation. Visitors will be able to wield the lightsaber shown, learn to operate the controls at the front of the ship, and possibly be called to fight and make some detours during their stay. From docking (where you can actually see the world below you getting smaller and be "transported" to the hotel via hyperspace and Launch Pod) to departure, this looks like it's gonna be really cool. Everything seems super immersive, from the design of the place to the lightsabers, to even looking out the windows at space, this'll be fun! You can check out some concept art and more information (don't worry, I summarized all of the main points here) about the hotel right here. What do you guys think?
Dee Bradley Baker on The Bad Batch!
The show's credits can be basically boiled down to Dee Bradley Baker as: literally everyone. But, here's what he had to say about the experience and having to carry the entire series (long quote alert!):
"Playing the Bad Batch is a whole other level of certain things that are familiar to me, in terms of performing the clones in Clone Wars – it's that but more so. It's definitely more alone time in the booth, there's less ensemble recording and more of me as the ensemble… Well, when the characters were represented to me in the Clone Wars days, when George Lucas was still involved – and he was very much involved and hands-on during the Clone Wars – I don't think it was initially clear that I was going to voice all of the Bad Batch. I think they kind of threw it to me, because it logically made sense… Initially, it's kind of terrifying to be given an assignment like this – because you don't know if you're ruining it, or if you're so far away from what a Clone is that it doesn't work anymore. It's an unusual assignment as a voice actor to carry the whole scene or the whole show – can you do that, does that actually work?... And once we got back into the booth to do the standalone series, then it was a matter of reining in those character differentiations a little bit, getting a more refined lock on them. So that it feels very natural and flows very naturally."
Yeah, I even cut some repeated material out of that one. But, he gives a very interesting insight about what it felt like to step into the shoes of the entire Bad Batch and realizing that this could really work, and how it was a different and at first terrifying experience for him. What do you guys think?

Writing Creations
By: Jacobdflores
What's up y'all it's me Jacob back from retirement really quick to fill in for another installment! Before I jump into this week's work, I want to let you know that having your work featured here on the paper for this segment is FAIR GAME! Please please please I encourage you to use the tag #StarReview in your next writing project of any kind so that it can be shared via the SWA Newspaper! Anyways, let's get into it!
SHADOWS OF THEED CHAPTER 5
By: Ami
To begin this segment off we got a returning story from none other than the talented writer, Amidala. TROS those you who are unaware, this is all an original story separated into 5 chapters. And as you can probably tell, this is the LAST one! If you haven't yet read her other chapters first though, I highly recommend you do so!
A Rat in Queen Jamillia's Court
By: Rex932
You should've already known this would be featured, let's be real here. The FACPOV series revolving around Attack of the Clones is still going on strong, the collaborative project still full of plenty more stories to tell! Take this one for example, a chapter through the eyes of a character we hadn't even thought about when watching the events of the film play out. Definitely give this, as well as the other chapters of the series, a read!
The Forgiving A Star Wars OC
By: Aya
Here's something not commonly seen on the paper! This the first installment of a plethora of OC's that Aya is creating. Although not as extensive as a fanfiction, I still really recommend checking this character, as well as the others displayed on their profile. It's some real intriguing stuff!
That's it everyone! Thanks for tuning in to another segment of Writing Creations! It's been a blast highlighting some of these incredible stories for the past two years, and I look forward to what this newspaper and the general public of this Star Wars Amino have in store for the future!
Great work, Star receivers! Let's check out this week's Interview segment!
Special Guest Interview
By The Force Warden
Hello! Welcome to this week's Special Guest Interview segment! I'm The Force Warden, ready to bring you another Interview with one of you lovely folks around Amino! Today's guest is one of our fantastic mods: Valk! Valk has been on the team for a long time now, so I've asked him about the experiences and also what he's been up to on Amino. Let's see what he had to say!
Warden: You've been on the moderation team for quite some time now. What have been some highlights?
Valk: I would say some of the highlights is being able to communicate and meet new people. Through curatorship, I've met so many great people across the community that it just wouldn't had happen if I wasn't a moderator. Plus, being able to directly have a hand to further shapping SWA for the better by working with staff as well as keeping touch with the communities concerns is great too.
Warden: And your journey mainly started on the PR team. What's the experience of that like? Would you reccomend it?
Valk: PR I would was a necessary experience for me to become a curator. Public Relations helps mold you into being able to understand balancing how to handle situations, when to know your limits, when you need to call for aid etc. For me, I see PR as being the training wheels I needed to being a real moderator and I recommend that experience to anyone that is interested in wanting to help the community by helping the mod team.
Warden: And finally, what sort of plans are there for future posts of yours? You have all sorts of series like Valk Lore. What's in store for those?
Valk: Ahhhh. Well you see, as much as I like to spill the beans on that, I unfortunately have to keep it a secret for now lol. I will say though for people looking out for ValkLore content, the series is still active, they're still many stories to be told that I hope to eventually tell. But as of now, in general with my content, all I can say is stay tune for posts to come :).
Very detailed! Coming up we have a challenging riddle for you guys, but before that, here's the culture segment.
Culture and Star Wars
By Master Skywalker
Hello Amino! Welcome back to Culture and Star Wars where we take a look at elements from a galaxy far, far away and connect them to both world and pop culture. Today, at the request of former Newspaper Team Captain Fulcrum, we will return to the lenses series to discuss a favorite of mine: post-colonial lens.
The legacy of colonization casts a very long shadow on global politics. The exploitation of sovereign nations' resources for the benefit of others has led to a massive imbalance of economic power on the world stage. Thankfully, colonization in the traditional sense has largely ended, although more subtle forms have risen and continue to this day. However, the impact of colonialism was its distinct creation of a social hierarchy between the colonizer and the colonized. Post-colonial literature refers to literary works from the modern era that somehow tackle the issue of colonization, although post-colonial lens can also look at works before the end of colonization as well. Most common in current literature are novels from the perspective of victims of colonization rather than colonizers as the world comes to recognize the horrors of (predominantly European) imperialism. For example, applying post-colonial lens to Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness would reveal his anti-colonialist, but still very problematic, view of Africa. Through greater awareness of post-colonial lens, anti-imperialist should hopefully increase.
As the universe of Star Wars is completely fictional, it tackles the issue of colonization symbolically rather than literally. Chronologically speaking, galactic imperialism really began as far back as the High Republic with the Jedi hoping to settle the Outer Rim, bearing resemblance to the United States' own westward expansion in the 19th century. On the whole, the Republic has a slightly imperialist streak as it denies the Separatists a chance a freedom, and there is a clear power imbalance between the Core Worlds and the Outer Rim. Now there is not an established reason for this difference, but it can be inferred with all of the corruption in the Republic. However, the Empire is where the real resembles begin. The most obvious example is the treatment of the wookiees from the moment the Clone Wars ended. The Empire enslaved the wookiees, destroyed the forests, and stole Kashyyyk's resources. This occurred all over the galaxy as the Empire instilled its authority and took natural resources, primarily for its massive military.
So what would a post-colonial critic say about Star Wars? Well, put simply, it is a fervently anti-imperialist work. The fact that the Empire is the villain of the story is all one really needs to know to understand where George Lucas is coming from with Star Wars. His inspirations from the Vietnam War and Iraq where the United Stats, in both instances, meddled in the affairs of sovereign nations is reflected in his demonstration of a group of freedom fighters facing a technologically superior force. The Empire is largely faceless, while the victims are part of the main cast with characters like Chewbacca. In the broader canon, there really are not stories that try to assert that the Empire is the hero of the Galactic Civil War, although not every Imperial is a bad person individually. The Sequel Trilogy continues this theme as the First Order is a near clone of the Empire, so that tradition stays alive. In the case of the Prequels, one could argue that the movies side with the Republic, which is pro-imperialism, but the Republic is also under the control of Palpatine so it is not completely unfair to say that it is a wash when put next to the other films. All in all though, Star Wars stands for the values of peace, freedom, and anti-imperialism.
How interesting! And now for the weekly riddle!
Star Wars Riddles
By Rayan
Hey it's Rayan! The answer to last weeks riddle was was Jocasta Nu, and the person who got it right was Zuko! Jocasta Nu is mainly known for being the Chief Librarian for the Jedi during the Clone Wars, but she was also on the High Council at one point. She has taken on many Padawan's and survived the Hedi Purge. She also went back to the Temple after the purge to get some relics from the archive to help the Order. Now time for the riddle...
I had been promoted rather quickly
I fought in major battles
I searched for the enemy for a long time
I've had to correct others mistakes
Can you guess the answer? Let us know in the comments!
Well, that marks the end of this issue. If you have any feedback or suggestions, feel free to message us in the Newspaper Help Chat. May the Force be with you all!
